I was curious if anyone had considered holding a race in the florida keys. I know there are several different companies that hold races all around the US but none exclusively in the keys. If anyone is interested please post a response with you thoughts and ideas.

Thanks

Checked out the Fort Jefferson thread but I am looking for something like Key Largo to Key West or Long Key around Key West and back. I think around 120 miles or less would be a great deal of fun. Fort Jefferson would be very risky for anyone without ocean crossing experience on a hobie. Looking to start or enter an event that anyone with a small sailing craft could enjoy. Hope to get some constructive input and ideas. Thanks

Participants in the Havana Challenge, a first-of-its kind sailing event in 50 years, were scheduled to launch their main race this morning from Key West to Havana.

It's the second of three races in the challenge that features 16-foot Hobie catamarans. The first was the Gulf Stream Shakedown about 15 miles off Key West earlier this week.

Today it's a dozen Hobie cat teams (two people per boat) racing across the Florida Straits to Marina Hemingway about 90 miles away. This afternoon when they're expected to arrive, they'll be greeted by Jose Escrich, commodore of Marina Hemingway. Sunday is the awards ceremony, expected to be presided over by Key West Mayor Craig Cates.
