Hey ncmbm,
Where do you sail in NC? Maybe we could go out for a sail sometime once it starts to warm up. I'd love to see some of the good spots around here. I'm pretty new to the sport and atually haven't sailed anywhere where two hobies were at the same place at the same time, or in salt water for that matter. I've been reluctant to take her out in the surf since I've never done it before and without any back-up from another boat.

By the way has anyone ever sailed a windrider?

Dude, what part of the world are you in? Are there no Hobies? :?

BTW, the windrider rave (w/foils) is rated a point SLOWER than a Hobie 16.

Abbman, I live in Graham and sail on Jordan occasionally, more this season to train for racing. Most of the time I sail in North Myrtle and park the boat near the Beach Cove in Windy Hill.

Mglimpse, I have sailed the windrider. Its a cool boat but fairly complicated to sail and pretty subject to damage. Not near as fast as I had anticipated it would be. Maybe in strong wind it would perform better but then your stressing the crafts rig. I don't know. They are made close to my home, or were, by Confluence/Wilderness Systems. One of my Mt. biking buddies started that company. He's a big mono slug fan, not into cats unless they are 40' plus.

About the Playcat, according to the manufacturer's web site, as of Sept. 2006, the boat will be made by Performance Catamarans. Go here: http://www.morrellimelvin.com/news/

Also, if the dealer is having trouble selling it you should ask why, because you, too, may have trouble if you want to sell it.

I also saw that link that listed the playcat being made by performance cats. I went to their site; however, I could not find the boat. They have a boat called the escape, but it was tough to tell if it was the same boat. It was in the Prindle category. Reguradless, I would still go with the 16 over some other boat with questionable production. Although Morrelli/Melvin do have an impresive design list.

Nope, I just looked that is a different boat made by performance. Both look fun. So did you end up getting the boat?
