I bought a Hobie Mirage Outback this summer and am pleased with the way it handles and performs with the sail. I am taking it to the Keys (Florida) over the holidays (I live in Montreal) and will be using it to go to the reefs -- 3 miles away -- for snorkeling trips. I'm thinking of using it next summer to explore the North Shore of the St. Lawrence river and the Keys trip will give me an idea of how easy/difficult it is to load camping equipment, food, etc. for a two week trip and still manouver using the sail.

Has anyone else used the Outback in this way? Any hard-won do's or don't's I should look out for?

Don't just take the snorkle set, bring the air tanks and regulators. Diving off the hobie is a blask and easy to get up onto even with all the gear. Here in Vancouver it is the easiest way to dive off the local islands.
