I've always wanted a Hobie 16, but more importantly I want to sail solo most of the time. In the cold lakes around seattle I need something that's easy to right. I'm 165 pounds and don't feel comfortable righting the 16 on my own. What's the fastest Hobie Cat you'd recommend for single-handing? I read one post where someone clocked a Wave at 14mph, but the one I tried seemed soooo sluggish compared to the 16. What about a Hobie 14? I've never tried one. Thanks. |

For a single hander.....I think you'd be hard pressed to beat a FX-One. I just got mine late last year and it rocks. Very nice boat....stiff, smooth and accelerates very quickly. Not to mention tacking, it tacks quick enought for me to tack on shifts! I don't think you'd have too much trouble righting it at 160 and it can easily sail with two. Good luck! The FX-One is by far the best boat to fit what you want. It is lightweight, fast and responsive. Everyone I know that has one sears by it! Thanks, Brad Stephens www.sunjammers.com<------new site! I have heard the FX-ONE is THE boat to have solo. Plus, I have a 14turbo and its NO picnic righting. I weigh 200lbs and can do it, but what a pain. The 14 seems to turtle so fast compared to anything else that in racing situations, you've given up everything to get back over. |
