i may have posted this yesterday in the wrong category so... While sitting on the Starboard wing of my Hobie 17 yesterday, i noticed that the outboard end of the front crossbar lifted up from the hull. I see there is only one bolt on each side and it is on the inboard side of the hull. I do sort of recall a sleeve that the crossbar slides in. Does anyone have advice/knowledge about this? Thanks.

There are a couple of things that could be going on here, but the first thing you need to do is take the boat apart. Mast down, rigging off, rudder system off, trampoline off (if you can - some styles you need to take the boat apart to get it off. Unlace it at the very least.). Remove the four cross bar bolts. Easiest to do this on a lawn with a helper. There is a cast aluminum "shoe" that's attached to the inboard side of the deck bulge at the end of the cross bar. The cross bar extrusion slips over it and is held in place by the bolt that goes through the inner deck lip. If the end is lifting away from the hull, there's either a problem with the shoe (you hope) or with the cross bar (bad news - they aren't made anymore). Only by taking the boat apart will you find out.

^ Spot on. I had a similar issue at all four corners and excessive flex in the platform. All four shoes were loose with a number of bolts that hold them stripped. I just installed larger bolts and it's all good now. Wouldn't be a bad idea to pull apart the crossbars yearly to inspect for corrosion and cracks. Good luck.
