The race in October is going to be a massive race.
It doesn't tell us much about learning though it is : https://www.hobie.com/articles/learning-basics,180/

I started sailing this year. I bought a 14 turbo early this year and I had almost no idea how to sail when I bought it. I watched videos, read posts but ultimately the only real way to learn is get out and do it. I loved it so much I now have bought a hobie 16 and I am sure I will be sailing for years!

Try some of these videos.

See if there is a yacht club near you that has sailors in it and try to talk to them.

Ask specific questions on this forum and there is bound to be someone here that can help.
