So what's this huge news about? How 'bout we speculate wildly? A successor to the tiger? Bringing over the T1 from Europe? or more likely a new kayak?

With ya on the T1 !!!
Pearl would be nice too :D

Laying odds this may have nothing to do with those big, twin-hulled, thingies without pedals, that Hobie sells in addition to Kayaks

Holy crap! A low seat, line of kayaks for the open water kayakers with an industry standard lifetime hull warranty? Outstanding!

Riddler:
In order to do that Hobie would need to abandon the rotomolded hulls and switch to two part hulls (either thermoformed or injection molded hulls), just like most everyone else. They would also need to abandon the mirage drive pocket as part of the hull itself, (bad idea from the very beginning). Going to a simple oval opening in the hull, (no stress), with an injection molded mirage drive holder, (30x stronger), and replacable, (an $8 dollar plastic part). They could get their weight down, much higher manufacturing accuracy, and much faster manufacturing time, (it takes 1-2 hrs to make one hull via rotomolding, vs 5 minutes using the newer methods.
Until that day comes, I wouldn’t expect a lifetime hull warranty.
All just my opinions that’s all.

They bought out Pelican 6 months ago.

But seriously folks, Hobie is long overdue for a BA fiberglass kayak.

If that’s true that Hobie bought Pelican 6 months ago, that’s fantastic news to me. Pelican in my opinion has one of the most advanced hull construction methods out there, and are experts at thermoforming. I’ve been hoping Hobie would start incorporating that technology for years now.
One of my biggest customers has at least a dozen tri layer sheet extruders running 24/7, and thermoform many millions of lbs of products every year, typical thermoform cycle time for them is around 60 seconds on very large (small kayak size) products. But they have nothing to do with kayaks or boating. I’ve been working with them trying to reduce their cycle time down to 30 seconds. All their operations are heavily automated, ( really impressive). It’s my opinion that thermoforming and hot/cold low pressure injection molding is the future.
I can’t wait to hear more.

Here is why it is significant, this stuff is the best out there in my opinion, I just hope Hobie looks at it.

Whoopsy, didn’t mean to promote a competitor.
Just tryin to help, that’s all.
I love the look of that new outback, and as exclusive tandem kayak users, (our preference), that tandem Compass looks really nice.

Matt-

that new Outback looks amazing, I have been studying it and negotiating with my wife (we are well past the "I want one" part and into the "how soon can I get one?" phase).

it's like you tossed an Outback, Revo, PA12, and i11s into a bag, smashed it all up, and pulled out the best of each and updated all the features to the best available versions.

congratulations to the entire Hobie team. cheers, roger

from the e-broadcast of one of my favourite Hobie dealers...thanks Ryan and John.

Be the first in Florida to test drive the newly redesigned 2019 Hobie Mirage Outback. This model is sleeker at the bow, allowing the kayak to slice through the water, reducing noisy water slap. The MirageDrive180 Turbo Fins come standard and makes this kayak faster. The standing deck spreads out to 34 inches wide, improving stability. The new Outback is also 8 inches longer, which helps stability, tracking & glide. Pre-order yours during our demo day and discover a whole new level of kayak fishing and enjoyment!
