Post subject:  21SC jib sheet fouling

:?: What is the best way to keep the jib sheets from fouling on the roller furling handle on the 21SC. I have tried various shock cord preventer configurations but the sheets still foul during a tack about 25% of the time.

Thanks,

George VS

Before you tack, pull the slack out of the lazy sheet.

Post subject:  Cover the handle

We never made one, but a cover that wraps around the mast and over the handle would work. Perhaps it would strap on with velcro?

Actually, I've been using exactly that for several years now, after trying several things. I found a neoprene belly-burner type of thing at Walmart. It's about 8 inches wide with a big velcro strip at one end, and wraps around the mast about 3 times, which lets me cover the whole roller-handle assembly completey. And it's black, so it blends well. No problems since!

Post subject:  may have a solution

OK, I have come up with a fairly promising solution that is cheap and seems to work after several sessions on the water.

Tie a section of old mountain bike inner tube around the mast just below the handle with an overhand knot. Adjust the so its snug but not hard to pull over the end of the handle. Use the knot and tails to stretch the inner tube over the end of the handle while sailing.

So far so good. May need regular replacement but material should be easy to come by.
