As I sail further and further I'm now going to get a VHF radio. I have read threads here and looked at a few of the radios available. I have a question about the newest thing out there - HX850S. Is this worth the money or is this a bit too much than I may need? Sure, it is a good radio, but the GPS premium is about a $100 over the loaded ICOM M88. GPS is great, but after two calls Coast Guard will be able to corner the caller anyway, right?
Another question, any thoughts about what to get to chit-chat with support team (beer chillers and burger grillers) on the beach? Not instead of VHF, but in addition to it?
