That tip regarding using a cell phone to get patched through is a good one. I will spread the word as much as I can down under, with the slight variation of getting people to add the phone number of their local Marine Rescue/Coast Guard (we have comprehensive government funded volunteer organisations.. for example my local base has a 40 foot tower with full-on comms gear manned 24/7, a 30 foot all-weather twin engined power boat dry-stored on its own floating dock. a 15 foot half-cabin with twin outboards, and a PWC in its mini garage, plus a 4WD for accessing remote beaches etc, plus an army of volunteers to man them).

Sadly, there is an element of "dad's army" in the "officers" , but I guess that goes with the territory/
