my son and i bought a hobie 16 this weekend end and hauled it home for 900 miles. at some point the forestay came loose and drug on the highway leaving strands only. i need a forestay now but don't know the length. this is an 86 boat. there was a spare forestay in the parts bag and it is 19 ft long. is this the correct length? if not correct length, will it work? what is the correct length? i've been hitting the search features and i've come up with 17'; 17'6"; 19' 4" with aussie halyard.

your Hobie dealer probably has them in stock. I usually replace all standing rigging when I get a new (to me) boat.

i doubt seriously if there is a hobie dealer in the state of florida. i know there is not one in jacksonville or within driving distance to me. but there is a west marine and some big boat places that make rigging. i just have to tell them what i want.

Just use the dealer finder on this website and I'm sure you will find something close to home. I don't know the zip codes but I found three dealers in less than a minute. If you read past posts you will see a Hobie Dealer from FL posting. Plus all dealers will ship parts ASAP.

Right in Jacksonville? You gotta get out more often :) They are new since about May 2005.

The lower forestay? The original wires have an upper pig tail, halyard block and then the lower. The lower is 17' 6".

You could have called another Hobie dealer, most dealers will have one in stock. AS I always say, if you have a local dealer support them, if they can't help support another dealer. The shipping should have been about the same for an overnight from Murrrays or Hobie cat. Good luck with your new Hobie they are a lot of fun. Keep an eye on all the rigging, most people start to change it out about every 2 years or so, it its light use maybe more, heavy use less. Let us know if we can help you in any way!

Thanks,
Brad Stephens
