I'm across the Sound from you. Nearest harbor for me is Guilford, CT.

While this post looks a bit dated... hopefully new Long Island Sound owners will chime in. I'm across the sound from you as well Puzman... as I put in around Norwalk or Westport (depending on the crowds, time of year, and tide).

Puzman sounds great. Since this original post a year ago I sold my AI and my buddy and I bought two TIs they are awesome and IMHO handle a lot different than the AI. I posted a bunch of High Def Videos on YouTube. Just search under "leugr01".

We have not yet crossed to CT yet with them but it's definitely in our plans especially now we are post Labor Day power boat traffic.

Nice vids leugr! Let me know if/when you plan to cross the sound over to CT...if I'm around it would be great to get a fleet going. :)

I just got my first season under my belt with a dune TI. Fantastic boat! We sail out of Noank, Ct which is next to Mystic. It would be great to get a bunch of TI's and AI's to converge on a single area for a sail weekend. Plenty of time to plan as I'm hoisting the TI up in the garage til next year.

Hi All, Just purchased a TI this summer Having a blast, been tooling around on a lake in the Adirondaks, and sailing out of Island Park LI. Looking for more adventure. Tried to sail out of Hecksher State Park a week ago but looks like I need a permit to leave my trailer in the parking lot. any one know where I could get a permit or if I can being a resident in Nassau County? Thanks Tom

Hi Tom - Hecksher is a STATE park so they will be open all year. Here is their main web page along with contact info etc.

http://nysparks.com/parks/136/fees-rates.aspx

I just called to check for you and said I have a boat on a trailer - they said no problem - $8 vehicle entry fee ... use field 5. I asked what about county residence ... doesn't matter ! No permit needed for trailer parking etc.

Now, I haven't sailed the Great South Bay (got married overlooking it though) but if I was looking to launch near Hecksher and didn't want to pay, I'd either go to East Islip Marina Park or Islip Town beach circled in red in the fiollowing picture (Hecksher is on the far lower right).

I tried getting info for you on the aMarina but couldn't get a phone # ... they might turn you away but the beach certainly should be doable if you're ok wheeling from the parking lot to the water.

Sat looks like it is setting up to be a BEAUTIFUL sailing day with winds of 10 - 15 mph late morning into early evening and temps in the low 70's. Rain looks to be coming in around 4-5p

I'd love to commit to a get-together but my SUV is in the shop and I won't know until late today if it will be ready before the weekend

Thanks for the info Alan, I think I'll get the Empire pass just as a precaution. Wish I could have gotten out today, battling some sort of flu or virus. The satellite pics you posted show two marinas I was not aware of . I tried to launch just to the right in Heckshire State Park but was reluctant without the pass. Also the white caps were intimidating not having proper clothing. Just to let you know there is a dry suit clinic being held at Empire Kayaks in Island Park on Oct. 14th. they will be offering a discount. Tom

Just took delivery of a lovely yellow Tandem Island.
Very excited.
It is parked within a few feet of Moriches Bay in Westhampton Beach.
Haven't even had a chance to put the sail on yet.
Was thinking of a shakedown sail this weekend. Water temp is 69. Air temp should be 69.
Hope that's not crazy.

I have been thinking about Candlewood lake, And thought it would be great for a TI, but I am not familiar with the wind there. It is 1 1/2 hr drive, and I don't know the launching area. I take mine out of Mystic into Fishers Island Sound. We would be glad to meet up at either spot and make a day of it. There's a TI owners club forming in Norwalk I'm looking forward to them having an event.
