This is a great place to sail, has two putin locations one at the 3 mile and us 31 and the other on the west side of the bay about a mile off or north of us 31. This bay was use for our Div. 10 campionships back in the old days.
The bay is quite shallow out to about the 200 ft mark off beach with total sand bottom, at about 1 mile the lake depth goes down fast to about 400Ft.
If my numbers a correct I think the width of this bay is around 3-5 miles and length out to the tip of mission point is 27 miles. This is lake Michigan and you would think that the water temp. would be, well lets say coooold however this bay is always 20degrees warmer than the main lake. A group of us will try to get together during the weekends from the end of May to sometime in September, at the state park beach, come on out some time.

The east bay is a great place to sail. I remember a D-10 Championship one year on my old Hobie 16. 8) The water isn't warm, but a wet or dry suit works.

Dare I say it? CRAM & Performance Catamarans have held the Nationals on East Bay several times.

Hey John,
Location just north of Grand Rapids, takes me less than two hours to get to the East Bay. When I'am not in a rush, winds don't start until after noon anyway.

Hey DVL.
Last summer the water temp was so high that did not need wet suit until end of September. I raced 16-A in the early 1980s up until they changed location to I think it was Caseville Mi. I used to work in that town, no problem with Casevilles folks but what a change from Traverse City at least for me, lets go out for dinner, OK where? Port Austin?
Harvey
Caseville has a great park and beach some good winds to. :P

I am planning to break out the dry suit and sail on east bay tomorrow, there's only one way to solve an itch :)
