Finally got a video together of our trip last weekend. The plan was to sail from Terrigal to Maitland Bay however the swell and winds didn't suit so we decided to play safe within Cowan Creek. ChrisJ, Stringy, Cathy and myself sailed out from Patonga Beach to Refuge Bay and met with Davew 1/2 way who had launched in at Bobbin Head. We proceeded to Refuge Bay which is where the waterfall was flowing in the video. Sailing down towards Jerusalem Bay we met up with Cowsgomoo. Jerusalem Bay was a great spot for lunch however the tide was coming in fast my kangaroo steaks were at risk of going under. Sailed to another bay ( which I can't recall the name of, help me out fellas. The bay where the Germans invited us to stay over on their boat ). CGM and Dave sailed off back to Bobbin and the rest prceeded in battling against the N/Easter back to Patonga.

Hope you like the video but for some reason it didn't come up in HD ????

The other bay was Castle Lagoon. HD in Youtube can take a period of time after uploading before becoming available maybe just have to wait.

Just waiting for the video to download.....

Managed to watch the video. Pretty good. The guys at work liked it. What do you use to put it together?

Glad you liked it mate. Just the el-cheapo Windows Media Player. But I'm just looking at stepping it up a bit to either iMovie or Premier.

Great stuff mate! That mount works a treat. 8)
If you're going to upgrade check out Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10. It's great value -especially the Platinum Production Suite.

Thanks fellas. Yeah, it was a top day Max. It all looks like a bit of a doddle but coming home was a bit of a sailing challenge tacking into a gusty N/Easter. I was knackered. Lucky it wasn't me who was relied on to go straight to work and rescue stranded maidens in burning buildings.
I was pretty happy with the camera mount Stringy. I suppose I designed it more for the forward and aft movement in mind up and down swells. But it seems that it works really well for the sideways movement. You sort of have to look carefully but in the tacking, the horizon is always horozontal. Going out through the swell at Shoal Bay really got me thinking of how to capture the size of the waves and I think this may do it.
I'll have a look at that Sony software. Thanks. In fact once you have all seen the clip I might pull it and rework it with a different soundtrack. It works well with the clip and I really like Amy MacDonald but her lawers may not be so nice. What was that website with the freeware songs and tunes again ?

There's a lot of legally free music at Jamendo.com, but it takes time to find anything you like when you haven't heard of any of the artists before.

Thanks Max - I've had a look at that site and I see what you mean with sifting through the inappropriate to find the appropriate. Good website though.

Angus - The red ones were there. If you look closer you can see them in the rear view mirror.

Here's our track for the day. 35 km of mostly light winds and pedal assisted sailing. White track out and blue for the return into the NE headwind.

Some video. No exciting sailing this trip but it was a very pleasant, if tiring, day on the water.
A great start to our season downunder. :)

Good video. The cam on a pole really works well.

Loved the different angles Stringy. That shot at the rudder looks tops. I fact, don't know if you noticed but we are videoing each other at one point. When I came up behind you at the 2 minute mark on your video, well that matches the 5 minute mark on mine.

I'm so looking forward to this season.

Thanks CGM and Slaughter. :)
The pole needs some work but I'm reasonably happy with it, though it would be difficult to use in strong winds. I'd like to add a counter balance so the camera stays horizontal. Or even that auto gyro I read about. Having to constantly look up at it to see if it is level is a pain.
An advantage of it is the ability to use it as a whisker pole when sailing downwind.
Yeah, I looked closely at that part in your video slaughter. Not only a tacking duel but a camera shoot-off as well!

Oops, just realised the typo in the clip.
It's davew not daveh. Sorry about that dave.

Great vid, guys!

Now that our sailing season is winding down, I'll have to watch vids from you guys to keep from going stir crazy.

I keep seeing lots of other yaks in vids from Oz and Hawaii, but Cindy and I have yet to see another TI or AI at *any* of the places we've taken ours. I keep looking for them, but we've only seen a Revo here and there on occasion - no other sailing yaks.
