I was looking at these bike wheel straps at REI yesterday...

...when it occured to me that they might be a great way to strap the Islands' mast to a roof rack or trailer. Just curious if anyone has a pair and can attest to their strength and wondered if anyone had tried them for masts yet. I've been using boat straps, but the small diameter of the mast and sail makes them hard to cinch down correctly.

I've used these on bicycle wheels but I wouldn't use them on my mast. For one, I don't think they're long enough. Also, they're pretty stiff and I would be afraid that there edges could damage the sail.
