I think Jerry from Jacksonville is heading down to Key Largo and staying at the Bay Cove Motel ( a good economical location to stage a sail on beautiful Sunset Cove) this weekend.

I am slowly recovering from a nasty cold and starting to think about that. It's close to three hours from Boynton Beach, which is a bit much for a day sail. Anybody from the area interested in splitting a room and enjoying two days of good sailing, good eating and good drinking - a split fee on the room (about 40 a piece) might be the tipping point for me, seeing as I will be headed out on a three day sailing event on the Gulf side the following weekend.

Ted,

I'll join you. See if you can get us a room. Nancy can't make it down because she is attending a meeting.

Ted & Keith,

My wife and I are going to the Bay Cove Motel this weekend. Looking at the weather forecast will it be too rough to go out and sail?

Please let us know wether we should bring our boats or not. I don't want to drag them all the way there and then not be able to use them.

Jerry,

The weather looks like it will be a bit windy, 15-17 mph, but not bad. It is supposed to be sunny.

We stayed at The Pelican last summer and can vouch that it, too, is a great place to stay at and use as a kayaking base camp. Don't forget to eat at Mrs. Macs Kitchen (http://www.mrsmacskitchen.com/) just a few doors down - it's the best eating we encountered anywhere on Key Largo and some of the best in all of the Keys.

Have fun, guys! :D :D :D

Lousy computer keeps shutting down on me.

Keith and Jerry. Some of the higher wind forecasts have me thinking I'll hold off for Caya Costa the following weekend. I was envisioning some mellower sailing, including another beautiful night sail.

Jerry, I would still bring, at least the TI. The two of you should be able to have some nice runs in the somewhat protected cove. The brunt on the front will be Friday. I think you will regret it if you don't bring a boat.

Ted,

We'll bring both boats. My wife prefers sailing her AI over the TI and it's safer trailering both boats. The TI by itself makes the trailer pretty tippy.

My cell phone is 904-955-3932 and we'll be staying at the Bay Cove Motel if anyone wants to get together for a sail or a drink or both.

If Keith is flexible (he's closer than I am), I'll keep eye on the weather and make a last minute decision. The motel hasn't been filling up. That's the nice thing about these boats, you don't need a lot of lead time to get geared up and on the road.

Ted, I'm flexible. If you decide to go, get us a room.

Here is sailflo for the next few days , reported in Knots:

http://www.sailflow.com/windandwhere.iw ... ast+Graphs

I'd go out in it if I were already there, but not as likely to drive down for those conditions.

Hopefully, it will settle some, Jerry. Forecasts around here are pretty unreliable.

I do want to get up your way for a trip over to Cumberland Island.

We're scheduled to go to Cumberland Island on Saturday, November 13th but rigtht now the weather forecast doesn't look good. The guy planning the trip might cancel. That's typical for this time of year.

I have the trailer hooked to the car with both the TI & AI loaded so we should be in Key Largo tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for all the info.

I'll be at Caya Costa for that weekend.

You should be there in time to enjoy some libation at the water's edge, a good meal next door at Mrs Mac's and a nice sunset back at Bay Cove. You might want to take a walk over to Sharkies one evening for some music and some fish tacos. The motel owners can give you directions.

I could do a day trip to Cumberland during the summer by coming over from my camp in O'Brien, but I'd really like to go there during the camping season and spend more time - maybe my Spring break in March would be a good time to camp on the island. I imagine it's still pretty nice in early March - right?

Ted,

Early March should still be cool which is what you want for camping.

You might find out what it takes to reserve a camp site. It sounds like the island gets pretty busy and fills up a lot.

Jerry,

How did your trip go?

I came down with a cold last Thursday--just beginning to feel almost normal today.

Nancy and I are definately up for a Cumberland Island trip--possibly sometime in mid-March.

Keith

Keith,

The trip was fun but we didn't get any sailing in because of the weather. It was a little too windy for my wife so we did other tourist stuff.

We would be game for a day trip to Cumberland but we're not into primitive camping. I'm not sure where the campgrounds are on Cumberland but I'll try to find out. We're going out there Saturday with some people who will be paddling regular kayaks. I think the leader of the trip has camped on Cumberland before so I'll try to get some information for you.
