Big reservoir (100+ miles long). Best camping is Mustang Ridge north of the dam. Launch at the swim beach (just off the road on your way to the campground). Do not land on the Osprey islands; protected area but you can kayak through them (pics below). The canyon arms are great exploring at this end of the lake. Ospreys will fish right past you (gliding along above the water with their rear talon submerged to snag fish; it sounds like paper tearing when you first hear them).

At the main visitor center you'll have a high view of Kingfisher Island (3rd pic). Launch at the Sheep Creek Canyon boat ramp, pedal out to the main channel, and then circumnavigate the island. There is a boat in campground on the back side of the island, with restrooms up the hill. Regular camping is decent in Sheep Creek Campground.

Here's Jeanne entering the Osprey islands; watch your fins on the shallow rocks.

Kingfisher Island from the visitor center. Notice the white band around the shoreline.

This picture puts the scale of Flaming Gorge into perspective. The white band around the island is these cliffs! Carry food, water, rain gear, and jackets....it's a long day and the weather changes rapidly at this altitude.

Absolutely love the photo's, well what I can see of them. Its a shame they weren't re-sized so they would fit the screen and the whole image viewed at once, instead of having to pan across and then down to see them.

Thanks for sharing them though, it looks like a magnificent piece of country.

PS Did you catch any fish?

PPS Merry Christmas!!!

Thanks for the notes; the pic size is a problem with the source I linked them from. A little awkward, to say the least, but it's all I have.

Regarding the Sports, we love them. They fit nicely on the back of the motorhome (vertical, side by side) and have no issues in the various states we visit. For example, Oregon requires any out-of-state watercraft over 10' long to obtain and display an Invasive Species permit. The problem, we discovered, is that no one seemed to know how to get one! We talked to Rangers, Park personel, marina operators, Sheriff staff, visitor centers (who tried to call state authorities for us...nice folks and helpful). We couldn't get anywhere until we got home and found (on the internet) that under 10' is "no matter".

We had a short conversation with a County Park Ranger in Colorado, that ended when he discovered the Sports are under 10 feet long and he could not fine us or prohibit "hand launching" away from the boat ramp.

Complicated world we live in! Anyway, if you fit the Sport, it is a GREAT travelling kayak. Here's how the rack works. http://home.earthlink.net/~leinfam/id6.html

Hi JimL
Not sure where you are storing your photo's Guessing your web site and linking from there.
I use a site called photo-bucket http://photobucket.com/ and it has a very user friendly edit section where resizing, collage, cropping etc are so easy, you can store your images on here and then copy across to your web site and that way you always have a backup set.

Once again great shots and love your winch and cradle off the back of the camper.
