I have lost the bung for the rear of the central hull, got to the water, checked it was tight, it was not even there, eeeeeekkk!

It's a Bank Holiday w/e here, might find a fixings shop tomorrow (Saturday), does anyone know the thread size?? We are a mixture of imperial and metric still, so I may find something? Anything that will fit in the brass insert.

If you can't find anything, try a small cork or dowel, padded with several wrappings of duct or Teflon tape until it threads or jambs in. It may leak a little bit but shouldn't be problematic. That will hold you without damage until you can get a proper replacement. 8)

Thanks, I'm just taking a paper tracing of the size to the fixings shop first, see if I can find a similar plastic bolt and a 'O' ring. I don't mind do a temp repair but don't want to go offshore knowing it's temporary.

I'm sure you know what I mean! We will never get just one type of sizes or type of thread, so we are stuck in the middle as regards finding and using them.

I just undid the bung and assumed it wouldn't go far, how wrong I was.

The screw in bung must be about 5/16--7/16 AF and I couldn't find anything at short notice, so no sailing, no peddling and no paddling. I live 100 yards from the beach and everyone is out there on the water, a four day bank holiday weekend with the best weather this side of of the next decade, except me! Agghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Yep, I'd be duct taping it and getting out there.
(I carry a pump too  )

Funny, I mentioned to someone last weekend about having spare bungs for the new AI's because they might be hard to get. I've got a number of the larger ones just in case.

I carry both sizes, just in case. Does his boat have the same size drain plug on the ama (like my TI does) to bring to the hardware store to match with?

Still haven't got a replacement bung, the dealer is waiting as well. The id is .321" and about .351" including the thread, I've screwed some balsawood into the brass insert to identify the thread and just need to measure the pitch to get someone to make me a new one on the lathe.

I think I will have to fill the hole with some filler, let it set and unscrew it to do a proper job, unless someone knows the size and thread?

Is your ama drain plugs the same size?

No, the float drainplugs are larger with a coarse thread. Hard to believe no one knows the size.

Many thanks for that size, Matt, what is the thread? UNC, AF ????? We are awash with different patterns here. If you could give me the pitch that will do, we have the conversion tables to make a new bolt on the lathe.

It will be 3/8 UNC outside diameter 0.375inch and core diameter 0.3073 my mate says.

He's making me one up, might even get out this weekend.

:-)))

The bung is a bolt size not a pipe size. 3/8" and 16 TPI
