Question for Matt

I had my local Hobie dealer call Hobie in CA to find out if there was a Upright Solo Righting System for the Getaway. It's available for all the other models in the catalog, but not the Getaway. The dealer was told by Hobie that the Solo Righting System was not recommended for the Getaway. My question is, why not? And, other than a water bag, what other options are there to right a Getaway Solo?

The system would have to be a little different for the Getaway, It has the front tramp that prohibits easy installation of the mast safety wire. The forward beam is also larger. A custom wire would have to be made. Other than that it should work the same as the 17 system. We just have not done the work to make a kit for the Getaway.

Do you know if that is something that is in the works? Or, would leaving the Mast Stepping pin in accomplish the same thing - keep the mast on the ball?

I sail alone a lot, and righting a Getaway is difficult for me solo. I read the other ideas regarding lowering the sail to aid in righting, but the Solo System seems easier - and I'm into easy.

We don't use a keeper wire on the 21 Sport Cruiser, so seems like that could work. I have done no work on setting this up as a kit.

Thanks for the info - you and this forum are such a great asset for all of us out here. Would you think the kit for the 17 would be a reasonable (no liability involved here) fit for the Getaway? Just curious as to your thoughts on this.

Hello Matt,

Why wouldn't the mast retension pin work? Or are we suppose to remove it when the mast is up?

The manual says to leave the mast pin in while sailing.

Probably the 17 set would work. Keep the step pin in.
