I just removed the crossbars from a 1989 Hobie 18 for the first time. I was surprised to find large openings in the castings below the bolt holes. They are about the diameter of a quarter and about 1/4" deep. Is something supposed to be there? It looks like you might put a large rubber washer or grommet in that spot.

Thanks, Mark

Not sure why there is a recess in the underside of the casting bolt holes, but they seem to work fine. As far as I'm aware, nothing goes in there.
