I'm looking at purchasing a used Hobie Getaway.
There is an individual in my area selling a 2001 that has
only been sailed a few times. The rig contains several additional
items such as:

Wings seats
Single Trapeze
Performance Cat Trailer
Mast Cradle
Mast Stepper
Cat Trax
Carbon fiber extension hiking stick
trapeze harness
Deck Cover

The asking price is $6500, I know the list for the getaway alone is
$5400 new so it seems like a good deal. Does anyone have any idea
if this sounds like a good price, any what to inspect for as the price may
sound too good?
This will be my first boat, so I'm as green as they come (although I've
windsurfed for the last 10 yrs).

Thanks for the help :) .

Seems high to met as well, I quickly/approximately added up the new retail on the items listed and the boat and came up with about $7100. Note the wings can usually be had for the base price in the $5600 range.

There have been some improvements to the Getaway since 2001 - so if you are willing to spend the money anyway buy a new/newer model. Sailed or not the boat is still 3+year old boat- warranty expired etc.

I bought a new Getaway last October (2002). A first time sailor (techically) as well. Cost $5595 with wings. Trailer would have added about $800 but I built one instead - as for the rest of the stuff he is selling - is not really necessary and you probably won't be ready to use until you get the hang of sailing it anyway. (ok the mast stepper would be nice to have but only worth a hundred or so dollars-used). The wings provide a lot of outboard force so trapping is not necessary - but it looks like fun.

The boat has a lot of power and is a little intimidating for a newbie - easy to sail, it just seems like a lot of boat at first- then as you get used to it you will realize it is very forgiving, and a great ride. Good choice for a beginner, if you have a crew member along.
