I know that this topic has been covered extensively, but I would appreciated some recent insights.

My wife and I purchased a tandem TI and love sailing it near the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. As we are somewhat aging and lacking in upper body strength our biggest problem is getting the TI from our garage to the water--around 50 yards over a small boardwalk and onto a sandy launching area. We tried various mid-hull carts but the TI kept falling off. Rear wheels worked better but I am concerned about dragging the hull when the wheels don't lift up high enough.

We purchased a heavy duty plug in cart to try to solve this problem. It worked great when we had some friends to help us lift the TI but we found that the 2 of us could not lift it high enough by ourselves to get the posts in properly. Due to warnings about improper post positions and damage to scuppers, we decided not to use it and expended most of our remaining strength to carry the boat back from the garage.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, given the dire warnings about damage to the scuppers, assuming we are able to get the TI onto the post-cart, is it safe to try to mount the TI on the cart in the sand area and bump it onto the boardwalk (around 4 inches above the sand) or is it
better to carry it up to the boardwalk or try to mount it on the boardwalk to avoid this problem.

Thank you in advance for your help. This is a great forum!

rhyolken,

I understand your situation, you are not alone with this problem.
I am 60 years old and had no desire to add any more aches and pains to my already aging body. For this reason I specifically designed and built my cart (The Appel Cart) to be as easy to use as possible. I can load and unload my TI by myself and roll it over soft sand from the parking lot, down to the surf, and back again without getting a hernia or heart attack in the process. If you haven't already seen my video, here is the link: viewtopic.php?f=73&t=35157
I'd be glad to try to help you any way I can. Feel free to contact me.

I mostly trailer my TI now. But at first i used a cart and found that I could put my heavy duty cart in the scuppers (with some effort) while the TI was still in the water. If I had To do this regularly I'd add some weight to the cart so it didn't take so much effort to submerge it to mount in the water.

I have a similar situation - I store the TI in a garage ca. 50 meters away from the beach (launchside). Upon advise of some members of this forum I purchased the trax 2 cart and have no problems to pull the TI (alone, kids and wify always disapear when it comes to pull the boat...) to the beach.

The trick is not to fully assemble the TI when inserting the Trax 2 cart. It is quite easy for one person to lift the bare TI hull (with folded in akas) and the insert the trax cart. After the cart is plugged in, we plug in the mast and roll the boat down to the beach. Then I handcarry the AMAS and the mirage drive to the beach, assemble the whole thing at the beach and off we go.

Hope that helps.

Peace
Serbi
