If it takes force to steer... likely the rudder is not staying down all the way. As the rudder moves aft, you will experience more load (weather helm). Pull hard on the down control line and cleat it tight.

This worked great! When we went out in strong winds this weekend we had not problems controlling the rudder and the steering was great.

Thanks for your help.

The last of the rudders were shipped by sea in mid July, so soon I would think.

Contact your dealer.

My dealer went out of business not so long ago (reason unknown). Will the new rudder be sent directly to my address?

You would have to contact Hobie Australasia direct if you were not registered in their warranty database.

For information of Australian owners, I just got word Hobie Australasia have now taken delivery of the new warranty rudders and will be distributing them direct to applicable boat owners very shortly. You will get yours the same way I am thinking Alpal..Pirate

Thats exciting news. Hope it comes soon. Weather is getting better and I think it is time for a sail. It would be great to try out the new runner :)

Having been forced to get my new TI off the lift and onto terra firma in advance of Hurricane Irene, I finally tackled the replacement rudder project. I had been timid about this project and was vacillating about calling the dealer for backup. I'm a little intimidated by the engineering expertise on this board and thought Hobie's confidence in a field adjustment might be misplaced in my case. Not so! The video was awesome! I set up shop with my iPad on the workbench and completed the project in about thirty five minutes!! Thanks, guys!! LOve this craft!
