My son and I just raced the Hiram's Haul. Its a 30 mile race from to Eau Gallie to Sebastian. The next day was a return race. That's in Florida. There were two Getaway's, 3 Hobie 16's and one 18.
The total fleet was 13 or 14 boats. They had a non-spinnaker start and a spinnaker start an hour later.
Saturday was a totally downwind race with 15-20 knot winds. Sunday was 17-22 at the start, probably gusting to thirty at times.
It really was a grueling weekend. There were no Miracles,Tigers, or Wildcats in the race. The winning boat had a finish time of 1 hour 34 minutes on the return.
I don't recall what kind of boat it was.
Lots of fun though! We need more modern Hobies out there next year! A Miracle has won the race a couple of times. Next year the race will be held the same weekend! Hopefully, the weather will be a little more forgiving.

Awesome wipeout! We had a neck and neck finish with a Hobie 18 until he ran aground. But he didn't capsize. He was just high and dry!

If anybody is interested in the still shots I spent both days behind my camera. Took a bunch of photos. I'm hoping to race in it next year on my H16. See the photos at the link below.
