Just bought a used Hobie 16 for my son and for me as well
Still have a Hobie 16 parts boat in the woods
Still have the Hobie 21 SE Stars and Stripes USA415
Sold or wrecked one Hobie 14 and a 14 Turbo
Sold my old 16 to buy the 21
Totals 3 Hobie 16's
1 Hobie 21SE
and two Hobie 14's
Also still have the Catalina 18 keel boat. Hydro Sport 24 CC and my jon boat and my wind surfer and a truck inner tube
The yard and the lake are pretty full of boats and trailers and that is the way things should be for the Hobie Way of Life.
Summer awaits

Over the past 39 years, I've owned six 16s, two 17s, two 14s, and a Tiger (and a Sunfish).

Current fleet is 14, 16, 17 and a Laser.

You can never have too many boats.

Hummmm let me think:

Over the years:
14 turbo
16
(5) 17's
(2) 18's
18SX
(4) 20's
(2) 21 SE's

Currently:
(3) 17's
(2) 20's

I will be selling all but one 20 and one 17 come this next spring!

Ok, I don't know how many Hobie's one person can have, but I can answer how many one NEEDS!

You NEED,
-A Mirage Drive Kayak
-A recreational Catamaran - Bravo - Wave etc.
-A Higher Performance Catamaran - 16 etc.

Here's why.
If you've never used a mirage drive kayak, you're missing out on the BEST way to see nature. In general, wildlife aren't afraid of the splash free and silent operation of the mirage drive, and it's just SO much fun.

You need the recreational boat for a couple reasons. I can show up at the water, boat on the trailer, and be sailing within 5 minutes. I don't have to deal with the complexities of a performance boat, and I don't care if I touch a rock or some other solid surface with it. Besides, if you have one of these, you can teach others to sail. That means you'll have more people to sail with.

You need the higher performance Cat, simply because that defines Hobie. It's like being a Porsche Collector, but not owning a 911. There's work involved, but the reward of sailing the iconic 16 or other performance Hobie is what it's all about.

(good list?) :)

One is plenty!

I've got just one H17, but she is treated really well. This your she's got a new tramp, new wings mesh, and new sail is on order. I will be ordering all new standing rigging and a bunch or other goodies.

Just want to make a point -- there are non-collector types among us too.

Non-collector Hobie fanatic.

The most boats at one time was 2003, I think

2 Hobie 16's One for me one for my wife
2 Tigers One for me one for my wife
1-Inter 20 Wife sailed in the Worrell in 99
and an F/31 Trimaran

There was a point that I had a 16,17 & 18 all at one time back in the mid 80's

Over time Between my wife and I we have owned:
1 Aqua Cat 12
3-H14
over 15 H16's-It's kinda hard to remember them all
2-H17
1-H18
2-Tigers
1-Inter 20
Frers 36 monohull
C&C 35MkIII monohull
Corsair 31 Tri
Hobie Skiff

No you CANNOT have too many boats

Tom

Currently only 2 16's and a Skiff
BUT....Big Boat Shopping!!!
