Both dagger boards are worn off at the tips. I can put my fingers inside the hollow tip. How should I fix them And has anyone tried protecting them with a metal edge? Thanks for your help in advance, Charlie Daly (Connecticut)

Clean out all the loose broken material, then use a piece of fiberglass sheet (either purchased or just lay it up yourself) to provide a "spine" for the new tip.

Lay up new fiberglass, fair into existing shape, shoot with gel.

It's not a difficult repair. It's actually one of the easiest.

And no, I've never heard of metal tips on boards. Resin doesn't stick well to metal, so it would need to be a mechanical attachment. You'd be likely to just rip off the metal piece if you hit something. You're better off just being more careful not to run aground.

Marine Tex should never be used for a structural repair. If you listen to Jeremy Leonard (and you should - he did this stuff for a living) - it should never be used at all.

I still like Marine Tex I have used it on worn areas on rudders and centerboards and even hobie bottoms If a rudder is broken then something else would be needed for repair
