I took posession of a TI Dolly recently and for my purposes it is excellent. I can get the fully rigged boat onto the water from our beachside house single handed, and I can easily get it across the soft sand without anxieties about damage to the hull from the plugin cart. At our beach shack, I can leave it on the dolly supported at both ends (Matt said I could!) and be on the water in minutes. Money well spent, and it seems well built and easy to maintain.
That said, I agree with those saying Hobie should have persisted with development of the plugin. We have all paid for one, and for situations where the dolly can't be safely left or a one way trip is planned, they are invaluable. If Hobie had a modification kit with a cradle for the main hull and fatter beach tyres, the drag would be dramatically reduced and the risk of damage to scuppers minimised. I would buy it to give me versatility.
One question. Has anyone else worked out a method for getting the boat on and off the dolly on land and in water. In the water, the pole supplied is too short to allow a solo operator to push the cart under the boat to the balance point or to retrieve it. I may be able to fix this with a longer length of 25 mm PVC conduit, but haven't tested yet. On land, I have been pivoting the boat on its stern, which is OK on soft sand, but will need padding on hard stuff. Also pretty hard on the back. Anyone done anything clever with ropes or other tricks?

You need to use a couple of straps.

Hi All,
Here is my answer to the TI/AI Cart issue:

I also was concerned with the flexing on the scupper holes so came up with this!
This is the "prototype" - we have it set up to be CNC machined with 3/16 aluminum.
As to the wheels sinking into sand - or pebbled/rocky beaches we have here on Vancouver Island is just a shaft through the existing HD cart frame and add more HD wheels! (in test progress). - I've not had an issue with the pressure on the top of the scuppers from forward/back pressure.

The "getting the kayak on the cart alone" issue - I've found just "un-clip" one sides AKA's and roll the kayak onto its side - leaving mast in and other side out to lift it with.
