Can someone provide insight on the pros and cons of mounting the transducer inside the hull or a scupper hole mount? I'm thinking about a Lowrance DSI on my new Revo 13.
Thanks

From what I have read here it is not recommended to mount a dsi through the hull. The manufacture states this I believe on their website (or is that Hummingbird?) So mounting in a scupper hole would be preferred.

Lowrance claims that signal sensitivity on the DSI system is severely hampered with a shoot-through-hull mount.

I do not have a DSI unit, but a bunch of folks on the NWKA site who do have them shoot their DSI through their hulls and they all seem quite happy with the performance.

I would recommend that you try the foam puck type installation first. It is cheap, easy and then you can see how it works for you. If you are unhappy you can try the through scupper mount. For the initial foam puck testing you can just run the cables out your front hatch (no drilling required). BTW, I still run my cables out the front hatch, because if its not broken don't fix it :)

You can install the DSI internally and just use petroleum jelly (not permanent) in the foam insert to see how you like the image. I have a DSI installed on my outback (scupper mount), but I did it in the seat scupper so I could still use my wheel cart.

Here are some install shots:

I am looking at going through the scupper holes on my PA. I was looking at the Lowrance scupper mount. Until I noticed that all it is is a modified sprinkler head. I had several extra Toro sprinkler heads in my garage and they are the same. Just a little modification. So before you spend $54 dollars on the the lowrance mount. take a look at the $1.50 sprinkler. Fits right in the scupper whole.
