As I pick up my new TI next Monday, I called a local insurance company, who had quoted an attractive $252pa for insured sum of $8000, excess of #200 and public liability cover of $10M back in last December.

They confirmed these numbers, and then she said, "can you hold, my manager wants to talk with me"

She came back on the line, and said (true story!!!)
"We are happy to insure your craft as a kayak, but we cannot cover it when the outer hulls are attached as it then becomes a trimaran, and we don't cover those"

WHAT THE???????

I could barely control myself (despair or anger?) but I asked her to put this question to her manager. "Do you insure motorists >unless< they wear a seatbelt? You wont insure it if it is MORE stable. Your logic is ridiculous!"

After a quiet pause, she said "Okay, we will insure your craft in all its configurations"

Sheeeesh

Thanks Bob! It's like Christmas morning here! I sold my car last week, and don't get the next one until Sunday, so to avoid cabin fever, I have been receiving lots of goodies such as Elite 4 DSI finder/plotter, LHR-80a VHF with GPS, ACR ResQlink+ PLB with GPS (plus bonus SOLAS strobe light for crew PFD) & Cooper anchor etc etc, with another whole lot to arrive on Monday with the TI and trailer.

I will be fitting a masthead wind indicator, and have something different planned for that (photos will of course follow), spray skirts courtesy your great R&D work, raised padded skipper seat (up and back 4 inches), Lowrance scupper mount DSI transducer and lots of other ideas gleefully pinched from websites such as yours :) plus the generous explanations given here and elsewhere by others with far more knowledge than me.

Hakas will not be far behind (well to the side actually LOL)

Happy camper!
