The 2012 PA14 steers on the left hand side.
Not a good setup when using a right hand baitcaster while bass fishing. Too much reaching across the body to steer while fishing.

Just purchase the earlier model and set up your steering on the side you prefer, if it is a really big issue for you. (atavuss is talking about selling his 2009)
Regards.....

It's not a "really big deal" for me. This is a fantastic fishing craft. I have no regrets purchasing this Hobie.
Perhaps some of the Hobie moderators read these forums for constructive criticism for improvements in future designs.

Didn't mean to come across as complaining. Not my intent.
Hope this helps.

Tight lines.

If I had to make a guess, all the new features on the PA12 will migrate to the PA14 in the future.
PA12 has the dual steering where you can steer from left or right.

If the parts are still available, you may be able to get the seat attached steering mechanism which can be mounted on either side of the seat. In my opinion, this unit is far superior to the hull mounted steering unit.

Everything else is the same - same rudder, same drum, etc., just a different location.

I am interested.

It looks as if parts are available according to the 2011 parts catalog which is the latest I found.
Not knowing the setup it is a bit daunting at this time. I am really interested in trying the underseat steering handle mounted on the starboard side.

Maybe Hobie could give me some tips on how to mount it?

thanks

There's a kit that was originally designed to move the steering from seat mount to a post mount like the current version. With this kit, you can install the steering on the right side if you'd like. It is part number 84506201. Not the greatest photo, but you can get the idea:
