From what i hear, the Hobie 20 Miracle is also a fine Cat. a bit lighter
than a 21, perhaps a Lil easier to handle ?

After checking the "FAQ" of both the Hobie 20 and the 18 ;
i may have targeted the Mircale-20 instead of my 21-SE.
According to this, the 18 and the 20 are the same weight.
but the 20 has a 2ft taller mast with 10 more square ft of aria.

I was offered Good money for my 21-SE, even with the rear X-beam
cut in half, mostly because my Hulls are in near Perfect condition.
((i said NO)) !

I've definitely loved my Hobie 21 SE's and prefer them over the SC. Easy to singlehand and can also carry 4 adults and stay fast.

Might be thinking about selling one of my Hobie 21 SE's to build an i550.

The 21SE is loaded, near new tramps, new jib and furling asymetrical, main in VG condition, mostly new running rigging. The boat was stored inside for about 10 years and from the looks of it has had much less than average use. I've owned it for a few years and have only gotten this one out a few dozen times.

Included is a trailer in VG condition that tilts up on one hull so get you under the 8' towing restriction.

Not sure what I'd ask for it yet..still pondering whether I have the time to commit to the I550 build.

The 18, 20, 21SE, & 21SC are all very different boats.

The 18 is a great double-hander for two people that want easy handling and performance. They weigh in at around 400 lbs. Excellent choice for a guy and a girl that are too big for a 16 or two guys. They are super rugged and are a great all-around boat.

The 20 is a high-performance double-hander. It is not a boat for people that want to just putz around. It is very powerful, very fast, and a lot of fun, but is not very forgiving. It also doesn't like to be run up on beaches or dragged across rocks. It is a racing boat.

The 21SE is a large, high-performance boat. It's suitable for anywhere from 2 to 4 people. It has a lot of volume, a large mast, and a huge sailplan. It is a performance boat. It's also heavier than hell (600lbs), with a wide beam (10ft). If you trailer it, you're technically required to collapse it down which adds to the rigging/de-rigging time. It is a monster of a beach cat.

The 21SC is a de-tuned version of the 21SE. It has a fixed beam at 8'-6" so it doesn't need to be collapsed for trailering. Although it still weighs in at around 600lbs. It has a shorter mast and much reduced sailplan compared to the 21SE as well as the ability to reef the mainsail. It has a lot of extra storage space and a forward tramp. It is a cruising boat for 2 to 4 people or more.

For someone who's looking to just do some fun day sailing with the wife and kid, I'd probably choose either the 18 or the 21SC.

thanks. im a sucker for wings, just more comfy and disperses your weight. the price is right for the 21 se, just scared of that 600 pds. As far of the wide beam it will stay local @ a beach close to home.

beach wheels are required on the 21se. I usually pull my boat out of the breaking surf and then right on the wheels
It is a killer boat in every way The best hobie ever made and I have owned or sailed most of them over the years
