Just bought a 1980 hobie 16. I pitch poled my last one and cracked the hull badly and parted it out. I heard about mast rake and how it can not make you pitch pole as easily. How do I do that? Should all my Wires holding up the mast be tight or should the mast be able to move a little. Any info or on what you do with your boats will help.

Thanks

Loosen the forestay adjuster and tighten the shroud adjusters to get more rake. It doesn't matter if the standing rigging is a little loose as everything is tightened up when you tension the jib. Tension the jib until the forestay wire goes slack. After you are all done and ready to sail, make sure the mast rotates freely.
