I'm really hoping this is just some dealer out to gouge people and not official hobie pricing....because if it is

As you know Hobie sets all retail pricing, not the dealer base.

it was the first i had seen the 2013 pricing, and kinda 'freaked' when i saw the price hikes.

When do the new prices take effect? Immediately? Or 2013?

Sometime next month, I'd wager.

It will take effect on all 2013 product, I can't imagine anyone upping the price of a 2012 kayak to reflect 2013 pricing. We hope to see new product in about 2 weeks. I know the news had turned on the 2012 PA12 sales, everyone is trying to get in before the price increase so if you are on the fence go to your dealer and buy NOW

Wonder what the inventory of the PA 14 (2012 models) is? With the new enhancements to the 14, I can't see why folks would want the 2012 except for the pricing increase on the new models.

Let me try to explain the 2013 Pro Angler pricing difference...

● The PA 12, for its initial mid-season release, was priced with introductory pricing, set before all of our costs are in. There are typically adjustments needed once we are in actual production.

● The PA 14 has taken on all of the upgraded features of the 12, generally found on only much larger boats.

There was a question also posed... what is the difference between an Adventure and a PA? Someone could not see the value.

That to me was hard to understand as there are a TON of differences and a huge amount of value built into the PA 12 and 2013 PA 14. The difference between a basic mirage kayak and a PA include: Most importantly and the largest contributor to increased cost... Vantage seating. (Fyi... the seat alone is priced at $560.00 in our 2013 parts price list). Large hatches with liners, mounting boards, rod storage, large rectangular hatch with tackle management, dual steering, bow stern and side rails. Let alone the size and shape. These are all Hobie designed and built features with extensive costs in design and tooling. These are very different boats from a simple paddle kayak, jon boat or even our own Hobie Mirage kayaks.

Matt,

Thank you for weighing in on this topic. Your points are very well stated. I hope the 2013 models sell just as well as the 2012 ones.

I'm a newby.... I've kayaked for years and have done some sailing on a Hobie cat. After seeing the Hobie TI fly by my kayak the other day I'm looking to buy one. Will the 2013 released this month? Anyone know of the expected difference between the 2012 and 2013?
