I am an owner of a Hobie mirage outback kayak ( I own 3 kayaks,
actually...), and I just went out for the first time on a Hobie Cat
this last weekend. My cousin, who is an experienced sailor and owner
of a 16" Catamaran, took me out to St. Augustine and we sailed in the
harbor for about 3 hours.

I am absolutely, totally hooked!!!!!

I would like to know if it is possible if I could become an active
member now, until I can buy my own cat.

I have some experience sailing, but basically I run the jib whenever
my cousin and I go out.

What do I do about becoming a member?

Thanks for your time.

Beau Boivin

16 inches.... That IS a small cat....
Seriously, though, lurk and learn. After you buy a boat, someone will show you the secret handshake and give you the decoder ring.

So, it's so exclusive that you can't be a member if you don't own a Cat? Owning a Hobie mirage adventure doesn't count?

I would think that some die-hard sailors would be glad to be able to call someone to join them who helps with the rigging (you can't ALWAYS have another person handy to mount the mast when you want to go out, right?) and pay for lunch and gas.

Is this not the case?

BTW... thanks for the replies.

I have tried all of the emails on the home site for fleet 111 and all but one failed to go through..... the one that DID get through, though, I didn't get a reply from - that's why I'm here on this site to try to get some info.

Thanks again for the help on this.

Are there any alternate emails, or perhaps phone #s I could try?

Membership requirements are really low, you just need to send me a case of beer.

You don't need a Hobie Cat to post here, but it helps if you want to understand what we're talking about. You don't need a Hobie Cat to be a member of a Hobie fleet either.

Welcome to the club.

OP: You're getting a bunch of humor 'cause you didn't say WHAT you wanted to join.

A quick search of the Places To Sail Forum here indicated that you might want to contact The Rudder Club:

http://rudderclub.com/

There is a phone number and address (map) for one of the Fleet 111 members under "Events" on their website:

http://www.fleet111.com/

You can also try the fleet/contact info at the HCA site, but that page doesn't seem to be working currently (I notified Webmaster):

http://www.hcana.hobieclass.com/default ... 0817/3027/

You can join the HCA here:

http://www.hcana.hobieclass.com/default ... 0817/3027/
