I just built and tested an easy mount for the Hobie Mirage pedal drive for my H-16 as a "no wind" insurance policy on long distance sail camp trips I take. Under 10 lbs including the drive, effortless all day pedaling at around 2mph in slack water...I had to paddle my 16 for many hours and miles upriver on a blazing hot day on a trip last summer and swore I'd find a better way...not cheap ($500 for the turbo drive), but very cool...and now that I have it, the wind will never die on a trip again, which also works fine for me...

dreamer,
Would you give us a description or plans for your mirage idea?...Photos would be great...sounds very interesting!...I have a 19 ft trimaran and would like to fit a mirage drive on it...

At this point I'm actually taking a quick look at seeing if there's enough interest in the idea to actually get someone to manufacture the bracket (Hobie ?), so I'm going to hold off on specific details for a little bit. If it's not of commercial interest to anyone (which I suspect may be the case), I'll make sure to post the details here for all.

This is something I have asked the engineers here to work on for years. I would love to see what you came up with.

I've also asked the engineers about something like this. My idea is to... Nevermind, it's my retirement plan.

I think this is a really good idea. plus since
hobie also has evolve drive that mounts in
where a mirage drive would go there is another
option for auxilary power. I have a getaway and
it seems front tramp may be in the way.. keep us
posted thanks doug

seems like a bunch of money.
How about a $10.00 paddle.
Back in the day when I could not afford a paddle I would lay on the hull and hand paddle

OK it looks like Dreamer's last post (ever) was Feb 2010, then he disappeared off the board.

Hmmm .... another engineering genius silenced? And what really happened to Rudoph Diesel on Sept 29, 1913? And Nikola Tesla, who has all his papers?
