With the news of another of sport's greats, Lance Armstrong, being stripped of his Tour De France titles due to doping, it has brought to my attention that maybe the HCANA needs to make sure their playing field is level. Sure, we've got the one-design rule and crew minimum weights but I'm not convinced that's enough. It's too late to blood test the entrants at the 17 & 18 North Americans under way at this moment, but maybe the board of directors should look into blood testing over the coming off-season in the interest of keeping our sport clean and fair.

Agreed there should be a doping policy. But in perspective cycling is an ultra-endurance sport. The equivalent of three marathons back to back in one day. Then the same again the next day. Then maybe only a couple of marathons but up a mountain or three. Then the same the next day, for six days, a day off, then it starts again. For three weeks.

In Hobie cat racing we let fat old guys participate. I know 'cause I did the experiment. I have a suspicion that dope testing would turn up some Ibuprofen use and probably some marijuana and coke but not any EPO.

Have a Hobie (and drug free) day!

This formula would be the most helpful: %BAC = (A x 5.14/W x r) - .015 x H

Should we test to make sure there isn't too much blood in our alcohol streams?

Do you suspect doping as a problem catamaran racing has? Doesn't sound necessary to me.
