hi all!

we cracked our front crossbar going through some big surf... got hit by a clean up set

we bought a used front crossbar and installed it on the hobie.

:?: our question: we want to put our swivel cam back on the crossbar but there's no existing holes on the new "old" crossbar. can we use self tapping screws to put the swivel cam and base back on the bar? the original had one rivet and 2 machine screws holding it on the crossbar.

THANK YOU

Why can't you remove the old mounts from the broken front beam? I think you can still buy them anyway. Or you could get the Ronstan jib cars with built in cleats.

Stainless rivets are best. They won't vibrate loose. Self tapping screws would be the next best option. You'll probably want to use a little loctite on the threads if you use the self tapping screws.

yes, the old mounts are removed and ready to be installed on the new "old" front crossbar but the problem is there are no existing holes for the swivel cam mount in this crossbar...

so, the question is:

can we screw right into the new crossbar with self tapping machine screws? or drill new holes? :?:

Yes. Lay the swivel mount on the crossbar where you want to install it. Mark the holes on the crossbar with a pencil. Center punch the marks. Drill pilot holes for the screws. Install the plate and screws. Done.
