Have had the PA for about two years now. New to the forum. Modifications to the Yak include, rear seating for my lovely wife, system to use anchor at either end of the Yak, paddles extended with some extensions from a take down paddle from West marine, Watersnake ASP 24 saltwater electric motor, 40 amp hour 12 volt Lithium Ion battery, ten foot long outrigger system with ethafoam floats (ama or whatever that is) four foot long outrigger with large floats on the rear for second passenger, livewell pump mounted as a bilge pump in the forepeak (for information the Yak will float with two people aboard and filled with about 4 inches of water). The 8 inch hatch leaks when covered with water ask us how we know? Redid the hatch with silicone instead of the faux foam gasket. Greased the rubber ring liberally with vaseline and then tested. It does not leak now. To go on, tackle cover converted to side opening, cart made from wheelbarrow tires from Tractor supply, and a bit of ingenuity. Got sick and tired of turning the boat on its side to use the Hobie cart. A stainless ring mounted in the handle up front to mate with the hook on the back of my electric bike. Have towed the boat four miles with the bike and not a hitch. Adjustable rod holders in the front on the mounting boards and on the side. Humminbird 798 Side Scan Sonar with transducer mounted in the tunnel on one side just ahead of the rudder and the mount for the removable head on the side mounting board. Permanently wired to the battery. Extra padeyes mounted for whatever. Four large padeyes mounted to use for ratchet straps for tiedown on the roof rack. Winch system on front of truck with special straps to pull up the Yak to the roof rack and turn it down onto the pads. Rear system has rails to keep Yak from sliding off to the side and a roller in the middle. From ground to on the rack with no lifting pushing or pulling required. Just turn the crank. Folding ramp to lower the Yak from the roof rack just pull it backwards and down it comes.

I will take some pictures of the mods and post them.

Well it would be a whole lot easier if this site allowed the direct upload of pictures. I have my own website but uploading and then posting takes time for sure.

Lets start with the rear seat. Treated wood block, and downrigger mount on a Bass Pro seat.

Paddle extensions from a West Marine Takedown paddle. Removed the plastic paddles by heating the tubing until the goopy glue melted. Redrilled to fit the Hobie retention button spacing. And Hobie paddle redrilled to fit the West Marine retention button spacing. Soon to have a second paddle handle.

The PA is pretty stable by itself. Now it is super stable. The aluminum tube is ten feet long. The foam is from a Yoga roller. This system will be totally upgraded with more parts from the West Marine take apart paddles and additional foam rollers for the fore and aft outriggers and floats. In other pictures you can see how the outrigger stows for carting the kayak around.

Pedalling and paddleing are just fine. However, this old guy (70) needs a break in the strong winds and currents of the ocean. So a Watersnake Asp T24S with a foam filled cartridge plug makes life easy. The battery is a 40 amp hour Lithium Ion and weighs 12 pounds. With Lithium you can use 100% of what is in the battery compared to Lead Acid which you really should not take down less than 50% if you want many recharge cycles. I fashioned a weed guard with 1/2 inch aluminum rod which sticks down through the plug in front of the motor. Have not tried that yet. Weeds are really a big problem here in the keys where we are camped now. The connectors are Anderson Powerpole. Great high current connectors. Extra connector is for charging or bilge pump.
