I just picked up my 2013 Outback and I noticed that on one the cables that lead to the twist and stow rudder, there is a small O-ring sliding along. I pushed the cable guides out from inside the hull to check and see if there was an o-ring for the other guide, but there isn't.

Before I cut it off, can someone tell me what is the purpose of this o-ring?

Thanks

The o-rings belong inside the tube to help keep most water from leaking into the hull through the tubes when the rear is underwater or splashed. Maybe you can carefully push it back in. It helps limit water intrusion, but is not essential.

Mine slides out occasionally, it's easy to push back in snug with the car keys before launch.
