Hi,

I recently bought a Wildcat, and so far I have sailed 5 times and broke 3 daggerboards. Been sailing mostly with 15 knots wind. Any help as to what could be the problem?

Thanks

Likely it's from over-loading the boards - in the owner's manual trimsheet - it tells you what to do with the boards... but basically - if you are sailing in conditions where you are trapeezing - the boards need to be pulled up about 12" going upwind - and halfway at least for going downwind. see the last couple pages of the manual online for help - here's a link: http://www.hobiecat.com/support/products/wildcat/

JB,
Any chance of getting shorter boards?
Can, say an F18 owner have two sets of boards? one for windy conditions and one for light conditions? That would be awesome!
Some of us don't ever sail in anything under 15mph and don't like boards sticking up all the time and getting in the way.

I'd rather buy a set of boards from Hobie than some third party or try to make something myself.

Of course I'd have to add inserts to my trunk since I'm on a Tiger but for sure, I'd buy a pair.

I'll bet adding an insert (plug) to the longer boards female mold would be rather easy to do for a world wide company like HCC

We are not going to back and make shorter boards, everything now is longer. (In light winds you want that extra lift) These are racing boats, and you can't change foils during a regatta so you need one set of foils that will work in any condition. The negative is that you have boards sticking up through the deck, but that's what it's come to, and we aren't planning to go back and start making shorter boards.

Have two Wildcats. Not for racing (yet), but I'm having one set cut shorter. It's often 15+ in Puerto Rico, and I also hate running into them on choppy seas!

We are still selling short boards - many folks like the shorter ones for high wind areas - so we have them available again - don't go chop down your long boards - just order a short pair if you want them - from any Hobie Cat dealer.
