Internally mounted options are very viable for traditional FF installations with 83/200 style pucks or similar; however, there has been some reports of folks trying internally mounted options for down-scan style transducers with some degradation of the images and inaccurate readings. The best installation is always one that places the transducer in the water. That is why so many folks opt for something like the Mad Frog Liberator, Liberator Jr, Harmony transducer arm kit and the various custom options that so many have done.

Has anyone looked at the Transducer Mounted: Inside Hull kits that Humminbird puts out for Kayaks?

This isn't a real good example but the only good pic I have of the DI on my HB. This is a thru hull install. I've had some real good results. I had to tweek the settings to get it there. Out of the box settings are worthless.

I have the Humminbird 385ci DI with the Humminbird Kayak Thru-the-Hull mounting kit. I get detail similar (probably a little better) to what "caenes" shows as well. I agree that the "out of box" settings are not the best and some minor adjustments seemed to make the results more of what was expected.

I have an external Humminbird temperature accessory that reads my water temp directly and overrides the temp sensor in the transducer. The temp sensor is in the right scupper hole in the second picture below. No real issues so far for me. I've posted these before, but here are the pictures of my setup.

I use one of these screwed into the drain hole on my PA 12 and the transducer ram mounted to it. I have these made by a friend here in the states and have plenty if anyone wants one.

They are water-tight if you use the o-ring and a bit of marine goop in the slot that the cable runs through.

I can also supply these from Australia... Rob and a few others have purchased from me in the past, and I supply with o-ring. I don't advocate cutting the groove in the bung, as it offers another point of water ingress - much better to use a grommet and run the cable in through the deck...

I believe my pricing is very competitive both inside Australia, and posted to the US market...

PM me if you are interested.

Matt - Kevin hasn't made these for quite a while. Mine are made from aluminium, as stainless was getting a bit too expensive, and has a nasty tendency to attract sharks... :)

To get the detail from your 597 what did you tweak? I have the 587 ci HDDI and it set up with the shoot thru the hull. So could you give me exactly what things you did please to get that clean. Do you think one color does better than other and so on? Thank you.

Just bolt your transducer to your rudder, forget the mounting hardware
It's a no brainer
