Sometimes when it is very windy at the place I sail at I would like to have less power on the Getaway. One option would be to reef the mainsail but might be a little complicated because there are no reefing points on the sail.
Has anyone used a smaller sail, like for example a mainsail for the Wave on a Getaway? Would it sail alright with lots of wind, or will the boat be a little unbalanced in some way? It seems that it could be a good option for very windy days or for safer sailing when a less experienced skipper is sailing on a windy day.
Any thoughts?

thanks!

Guillermo

This guy had a zipper put in his main sail so he could reef it. He also made some other cool mods... Scroll down to the pictures of his getaway.http://steve.skybeach.org/sailing_files/sailing2.htm

The Zipper main is from a Wave, and it is something we sell through our dealers for Waves. HE has somehow adapted it to work on his Getaway - the only thing to worry about is the sail pulling out of the track in the comptip because it's plastic. You need the sail to be all the way down into the aluminum section so that when you sheet it doesn't pull out.

Ok cool!!
And I can even see that he is using a Wave sail. So he does use the whole wave mainsail to reduce the area, and then a smaller version of it (w/o bottom) for even less power...
