If you have posted any Video on You-Tube you will notice that there is a tab called Analytics. You can see what country the hits are coming from.

The one section that interests me is Demographics: Almost all the hits are in the 45 to 65 age group. 5% in 35 and nothing bellow. 4.6% in the 65+ group. That must be Chekika (Keith). 5.5% is Female...

What does that say about us Hobie Island sailors??? A bunch of old farts with plastic toys...

===============
I have been trying to promote the Islands in my area. Virginia Beach is a big summer, water community. For some reason the Islands are scarce, and beach cats are popular with the young crowd.

What can we do as a group to promote this boat to a wider audience?

Harrumph! I don't consider myself an "old fart," and I am trying to get the counter reversed.

Nobody ever called me "fart dust." That is pathetic. When I was a kid, my Grandmother said, "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Now I know what she meant.

Keith, in defense of Nohuhu, he wasn't calling you "fart dust". He was suggesting that when you fart, dust is what comes out. I am in no way endorsing that opinion - just clarifying.

That's your interpretation, Chris. The post clearly says "you 'fart dust.'"

Keith, my wife reckons that if your wife gets wind of this :roll:, your nickname might become "fart dust" for ever more. She also said to tell you don't worry, you're well loved - she can feel it.

That little discussion reminds me of a recent story I read that could be related to Kayaking Bob's comment (or not) but is certainly related to Paul's question.

There's these two friends with Hobie Adventure islands out for a leisurely sail in Virginia. One is a really old fart with lots of sailing experience and the other is a young whipper snapper with a muscles that still work. They are about 5 miles out from Virginia Beach and no other boats in sight. The winds are very light.

Suddenly they spot a large dark shape in the water, circling the boats. its a great white shark and after doing a couple of circles it starts charging the boats. "Oh crap", says the whipper snapper as he hastily starts peddling his mirage drive like mad and making about 5 knots against the tide. After a little while he becomes aware that the old fart isn't with him - he turns around and sees the old fart casually fiddling around with something in the front hatch and the shark closing the distance fast.
"C'mon old man! never mind tidying the boat - get pedaling - we have to move faster than that shark!!" and he keeps pedaling like crazy, his bulging leg muscles now tiring but maintaining 4knots.

Then a few moments later the whipper snapper hears a kind of buzzing sound in his left ear and as he turns he sees the old fart alongside him holding on to a tiller. The old fart smiles and says "Its an electric motor - it runs on rechargeable batteries - a Tom Kirkman design I keep in the hatch just in case - Oh, and by the way, I don't have to go faster than the shark - I only have to go faster than you!" as he accelerates leaving the whipper snapper in his wake.

And that my friends is why there's only old farts sailing Adventure Islands in Virginia Beach !

Barry
