Hi

I'm potentially buying a second hand hobie adventure island in a few days time. Does anyone have any advice with regards to the 2009 model (Ivory Dune)?

I see from the advertised photos that it has the older sail which has 'hobie island' written on it rather than the hobie logo as the newer ones do. I must say i'm not a fan of the font and the general look of the text on the sail (call me fussy). I was wondering how easy it would be to remove if I wanted to.

Also, does anyone know if there are any issues with this model as i've heard things about the rudders with some of the older ones. Its being sold for around 2000 pounds (UK) with launch wheels, mirage drive and trampolines included. Brand new hobie AIs are currently on sale for 3720 pounds (without the extra gear) so its quite a saving if its a good deal!

Any advice appreciated.

Fussy!

No major rudder issues, besides the old rudder pin which you can replace for about 10 bucks.

I had a 2009 and never had any major issues with it. Sounds like a good deal to me. I wasn't aware that the ivory dune colour was available in the 09 AI - at least not in Australia. :? The old twist n stow rudder worked OK. Just make sure it is firmly locked down when in use. The mirage drive is not an extra - it's standard. The 09 model came with standard size fins. I bought the Turbo fin upgrade kit for mine and enjoyed the extra pedal power it gave me but it works OK with standard fins. I assume you will be inspecting it prior to purchase. There's nothing like a test ride to ensure that it is sound

Hi guys

Cheers for your replies. It's put my mind at rest. Is the rudder adjustment fairly easy to do?

I'll be seeing it all set up and be going for a test sail anyway. I just didn't want to waste the sellers time, and mine by going all the way out to where it's being sold (about 2 hours away) only to say no.

I suppose the sail lettering is growing on me!

Should be out on the water in less than a week!!

Sounds like a Dune Adventure converted to an AI with a conversion kit. Conversion kits had the sail you mention, and were available prior to dune AIs', which was a 2010 update. They were not available in dune in 2009

Hmm interesting. They've not mentioned it being a converted adventure. Perhaps it was an early 2010 model. Is there any differences between a converted adventure and an adventure island of a similar year?
(i fear we are reaching new levels of geekiness !)

Cheers for the replies!

Check the graphics on hull, it should say Mirage Hobie Adventure Island, if not, it's the Adventure w/the conversion kit added.

If the conversion kit was installed correctly, should be the same as a factory AI.
