I have a 2010 Dodge Nitro that I need a roof rack on so I can get my PA up there.

Any suggestions on what I should consider getting?

Get two stainless handicap shower bars from a Home Depot or Lowes, some #14 drill screws and install them as far apart as you can on the roof. Then mount 3 inch plastic pipe to those. Get four eyebolts long enough to put through the grab bars down near the mounts. Get four ratchet straps. Get four D rings with strap mounts. Put those on the Yak. Now just put the Yak up on the plastic rails and strap it to the bars. A really neat thing to do would be to get two 45 degree ells for the pipe, and some additional lengths to go from the end of the pipe on the roof rack to the ground where you would have a crossbar mounted with two 90 degree ells. Glue the 45s to the extra lengths and put some of the drill screws through too. Then install that rail so you can just ride all the way to the ground. Put a hole through the 45 and the pipes up top and pin those together when you load and unload. Push it up, pull it down.

Go to Yakima.com to find what roof racks fit your vehicle.

Go to EBAY to see if you can get the ones you need at a cheaper price.

Look into getting a Yakima Boat Loader to get the kayak on the roof rack by yourself. It works great.

X2

I have the Thule with the Outrigger. It works, but you can only extend it 1ft before it bends too much. Go with Yakima and the boat loader, it bends less.

Don't think you will find many folks willing to drill/screw a shower bar to the top of their vehicles  Maybe McGiver or Clampett???

What do you want to do? Fish or cut bait? I drill cut whatever to make it work.
