Peter,

Tell me more about sailing Lexington Reservoir.

You say they're putting a pipe through the middle. How high is the
level right now? Will the pipe be submerged in future? Or will it
be a hazard to navigation?

I don't recall seeing any sailboats there. Are there many powerboats
to sail around?

okay, so lexington normally has good wind when any areas around do, because it comes in over the pass, where lexington is. other winds come from the east through a large quarry and then pass through a small canyon to come flowing out at high speeds. so when theres good wind in san jose or santa cruz, theres good wind in lexington.

gasoline boats are not allowed, mainly because it is a small reservoir.

electric boats are, but that just includes fishing boats on the edges.

the pipe takes up the entire length of the reservoir, and is a @*#(@ to get around at times, but really teaches you how to be good at tacking. i would tell you how wide it is, but ill just leave it at the fact that it is small.
the pipe will be submerged sometime after Sep. 5, when they begin fullscale drainage and operation on the area. (it will be closed)

i like it alot personally, because i live fifteen minutes away, has great wind most of the time, and stays quiet.

5 or 6 families live on the southern cove beaches and have cats- including a wave, a prindle, and a few H16s, plus one H14 with an oversized jib, so its obviously suitable.

theres two ramps: one private, one public, and very leniant park rangers who let you do what you want as long as its not really illegal.

im suprised youve never seen boats there. i was there sat and sun (wind was a little weak), and then a bout 4 days out of the 14 prior, and etc.
everytime i go, theres at least 2 other boats out there. and theres a windsurfer named jim who goes every day around 3, when i go.

hope that helps

Sounds like a great place to sail. Hopefully it will reopen soon.

Of course, Anderson Dam. I forgot all about that lake. It has been many, many years since I've been there. I used to meet my cousins there for water skiing. I've never sailed Anderson, but I do recall seeing small sailboats out there when we were skiing.

Good question. I hope someone has some recent sailing experienc there.

Had our new Getaway out at Rio Vista several times between June and Sept launching from Sandy Beach (You can chech with the park ranger for conditions at ph. 707-374-2097) Easy to get to on the West side of the river and South end of town. There is a beach that comes and goes with the tides, but we had good winds, sometimes a little too good in the afternoons. The river is wide enough to have plenty of room to sail, and the wind direction makes beaching easy.

Also went to a Hobie regata on Union Valley Resevoir in July. Beautiful lake, great sailing and camping available if you want to make a weekend of it. Off of Ice House road and Hwy 50 East of Sacramento.
