I have very basic (ignorant) ?

I see there is an anchor plate kit (beams) and a "channel" part for the Hobie 18, which appear to anchor the beam bolts. Are these parts used in conjunction with each other or separately?

Separate. One or the other. Channels were still used at the aft beam to the end, but plates became the standard for forward crossbar and shroud attachment in the late 80s.
