I'm looking to buy a Hobie Cat 16. I found this. What do you all think? What should I look for? I already went to view it once.

take a really close look for soft spots. that is the most common and most difficult issue to contend with. otherwise, i'l say it is a little pricy considering the age even if all of the parts are there and functional. you could likely buy one 10 years newer for no more than $100-$200 more. good luck!

I'd pass unless your budget is really tight. Look for a mid/late 80's version that's someone has put some $$ into recently. You can usually find nice 16's from the late 80's around $1.5-2K if you are patient. What to look for...

Must have:
No softspots
No cracks in fiberglass or aluminum
No blisters in the hull
Look for corrosion anywhere steel is touching aluminum. A little is normal, but if metal is missing beware! (check the mast and boom carefully too)
make sure the mast is straight, no dents or cracks
solid tramp w/ no holes or tears
good/clean sails - must be stored indoors
Has the standing rigging been replaced in the last 5 years or so?
functional trailer with minimal rust
Make the seller rig it with you to be sure you get all the parts & see that it all works.

I would want...
adjustable rudders castings (look for a big screw on the top of the tiller arm right above the transom)
6:1 mainsheet blocks
harken or ronstan cleats/blocks
a Sail box on the trailer and/or beach wheels are a big plus
