Hi All,

I'm helping a friend repair his Hobie 16, and I have a question about the baseplate / pad for the swiveling mainsheet cam cleat.

We had to order a new baseplate, part #1162 and it came today. I understand how to get the rivet out in order to replace the base, but how do you re-attach the base? I thought I'd have to rivet it back in, but there's an extra screw in the parts kit that came...can I use that screw to mount it? Or do I really need to rivet it?

If riveting is the best way to go, is there a specific type of rivet I should use?

Sincerely,

Brian Cochran

Hello Brian,

Fourteen years later I have the same question. Did you rivet it?

Thank you for any experience you can share.

The hole all the way at the back of the pad gets installed with a rivet directly into the crossbar. This rivet could be replaced by a self-tapping sheet metal screw if you don’t own a rivet gun.

Then when mounting the swivel cleat to the pad, the two middle mounting holes are installed with self tapping sheet metal screws that pass through the swivel base, through the pad, and into the crossbar.

The front mounting hole gets the machine screw and nut.
