No idea why, but I seem to loose the rubber grip every season. I tried a cork ball for a while and really didnt like the feel. Has anyone experimented with alternate grips for the hot sticks?

I haven't tried it but they make a huge variety of grip tapes for tennis. A trip to the tennis section of you local sporting goods store might give you good ideas.

Funny you mention this because I just lost my grip tonight.

Go to Wal-Mart bike's section and buy a cheap bicycle grip. Paid ten dollars on mine, needed some detergent to slide it on, but that sucker ain't coming off.

Best of luck,

I like the cork ball you can buy as a grip end. I carmalize it with the leftover epoxy so it last longer. http://www.murrays.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=44-0002&Category_Code=C-H&Store_Code=MS The ball gives you extra torque if you get too hard of a twist lock.

You folks that are losing your HotStick grips: how are you installing them? With hair spray or the like?

Mine must have been loose when I bought the boat. It didn't take much for it to slip off. I may get creative and use a couple different colored bike grips.

I have an older hotstick. The grip has two rivets in it. I didn't put them there so I have to assume it is original. Otherwise I would suggest jetski type grip adhesive.

If you grip slides on pretty easy, use superglue, but you got to get it in place quick...... I used a mountain bike grip on my alum adjustable tiller.

Anyone know off the top of their head what the diameter is of the Hotstick tiller?

At the grip, but not including the grip, mine is exactly 1 1/8"

I haven't tried this, but some double-sided golf grip tape with a light rinse of grip solvent would work well I would think. Golf Galaxy or a Golfsmith in your area should have the stuff you need. Cut a couple strips of the grip tape to match the length of your grip; remove one side of the backing and apply to the shaft of the hot stick, and then remove the outer backing from the grip tape. Pour a little of the grip solvent into the grip handle and coat the inside of the grip with solvent, and then pour the solvent over the grip tape; the solvent will act as a lubricant AND cause the adhesive on the tape to soften slightly. Slide the wetted grip onto the shaft, make some final alignment adjustmets and let it set for 30 minutes. The solvent is citrus-based I think.

I use hockey tape, holds up well and you have a choice of colors. Roll a bunch into a ball first and tape it on the end then wrap it up as far as you like.
